Six questions about your own company

You may know the questions already. They are on this site and they are simple. They only become uncomfortable once you answer them about your own company, and that is what this page is for.

Take twenty minutes. Write short answers, in your own words. If you do not know something, write down that you do not know. That is the most useful answer on this page.

1. Continuity. What must not stop?

Name the process or the service your customers notice first, and say after how long they notice it.

2. Dependency. What does that depend on?

Name the systems, the data, the people and the suppliers that process runs on. Include the party you do not manage yourself.

3. Ownership. Who is accountable?

Name a person. If you get no further than a department, a supplier or “we do that together”, write it down that way.

4. Exposure. What can go wrong?

Describe what happens to your business, not what the technology does. Not that an interface fails, but that you cannot invoice for a week.

5. Measure. What is in place?

Name the agreements, provisions and contracts that exist, and say what they are meant to do at the moment it goes wrong.

6. Evidence. Where is the proof?

Name the document it follows from, with a date: a test report, a contract, a report, a log entry. If you cannot name one and you are still certain, write next to it: assumed.
